The Curriculum

We encourage all children to love and respect God, his people and to appreciate the talents given to us. We hope that our children will fulfil their unique role in creation and ultimately contribute to the common good.

The Structure of the National Curriculum
Pupil's Age Year Group
Key Stage 1 5 - 7 1 - 2
Key Stage 2 7 - 11 3 - 6
Key Stage 3 11 - 14 7 - 9
Key Stage 4 14 - 16 10 - 11

For each subject and each Key Stage, programmes of study set out what pupils should be taught and attainment targets set out the expected standards of pupil’s performance. There are four core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and I.C.T. In our Catholic School, we regard Religious Education as a core subject. There are six foundation subjects: History, Geography, Design and Technology, Music, Art and Physical Education.

Foundation Stage (Reception) pupils have a separate curriculum and work on six areas of learning which are called ‘The Early Learning Goals’.

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development
