Happy Days

School is served by Happy Days Before and After School Club, which runs in partnership with Sowerby Village School. The children are dropped off and collected by mini bus before and after school. The Club is also open during the school holidays.

Yellow Bus

The introduction of the 'Yellow Bus Scheme' has been a great new initiative at Sacred Heart School. The service has provided the pupils with a home to school service that is tailored to meet their needs. The Yellow Bus features a dedicated driver, Sam, who carries a register of all the children travelling with him. Every child is allocated their own seat with seat belt. The bus picks them up at localised points. School also employs a Bus Escort, Mrs Atkins, who also travels with the children. Children who travel on the Yellow Bus have fun, they bring their own CDs to play to and from school. Here are a few of things that they had to say about their experience of the Yellow Bus:

  • "Sam, the driver, is very kind. He chooses a co-pilot to help with navigating the bus every night."
  • "It's warm and cosy on the Yellow Bus."
  • "If you would like to see the bus' route please click here."

If you would like an application form, please contact the school.

School Meals

The school makes every effort to promote a healthy diet. Dinner money is collected on Monday and Friday of each week. Children eating sandwiches join with the school meal children. There is a choice for those who opt for school dinners, there is a salad option each day. The school encourages children to treat lunchtime as a social occasion and a time to chat with their friends. Children are invited to bring fruit and vegetables to school for consumption during playtimes. Reception and Key Stage One children benefit from the government's initiative and all receive at least one piece of fresh fruit on a daily basis. On entering Reception, every child is also given a water bottle, kindly donated by the PTFA. The children are permitted to drink water whenever they like throughout the school day. Replacements can be purchased from the school office.

Homework

Homework is given to all our children in order to consolidate learning , which has taken place in class. At Foundation Stage and Key Stage One, homework largely consists of daily reading with parents, and work connected to English and Mathematics.

In Key Stage Two, the children receive a broader range, i.e. researching information related to topics studied, such as RE, Science, History, Geography and of course English and Mathematics.

The school endeavours to keep parents informed about the school curriculum, through regular newsletters and half termly curriculum information sheets.
